Dinard Golf Club On the north coast of Brittany close to St Malo
This course is beautifully set with magnificent views of the sea and the rocky coves on almost every hole. It would be difficult to find a more beautiful place to play golf. The course itself is not really a links course as such although in places there are small dunes and the familiar humps and hollows. I consider it to be a clifftop type seaside course. The course is not particularly long and is reasonably straightforward to play but for the frequent strong winds. It’s a super little holiday course and in the summer season it is packed. This was the first course that I played in France back in the early 1980s although I play there regularly now but mainly in the winter when there are few people on the course but the underfoot conditions are excellent so that the weather does not affect play too much.
My favourite hole is the 12th which is a par 3 with a beautifully set tee overhanging a rocky cove and with superb far-reaching views.
I haven’t played any medal rounds at Dinard. Best score in friendly matches but off the back tees is 72.
There is a fabulous art deco clubhouse which also has great views and where the food is good.
