Golf de Cabourg Le Home Located on the north coast of Normandy near to Caen and the ferry port of Ouistreham
This was originally a 9 hole links course but was extended to a full 18 hole course in more recent times. The newer holes are different in character – much longer and parkland in character with trees, ditches and ponds. The short links style holes are loads of fun. You start with two such holes and then cross the road to play the parkland section, finishing up back on the links for the last few holes. Cabourg is a friendly club and its members are very active in the various inter-club competitions and the local league – La Ligue de Basse Normandie. There is a lovely old clubhouse in the colombage style which serves good food – great to enjoy on the terrace overlooking the 18th green.
My favourite hole is the 16th – a fiendish par 3 with a green set high up above the tee and with the beach and sea beyond it. A nerve-racking tee shot because of the out of bounds beyond the green. The three holes before this one are also great little links holes.
My best round here in competition was the first I ever played on it, 11/06/04, a 75 with which I won the best gross in the Seniors de Normandie.
